Song I wrote 1996, and performed several times live in the 90's. Now re-recorded with shifted key. Funny fact is that in Sweden at least two other pop singers wrote their own songs named Shangri-La in 1997 or 1998.

I know you're very proficient in English (what can I say, it wasn't my first language but has become my first language &, therefore, most of the time, I'm most comfortable expressing myself in English). If you get around to recording an English version I'd love to hear it. Go with the flow of your new-found creativity. If? you want to revisit re-recording your old pop songs I'm sure you've got them written down/recorded. You can always go back at some point if it still interests you.

I just listened to this about 6-7 times & worked out what appeals to me: it reminds me of listening to Leonard Cohen or Bob Dylan or Charles Aznavour (or someone of that calibre). When they sing their own songs, no one can compare to the feeling/the quality of their voice that makes it distinctive & entrancing. I've heard so many covers of their works by 'perfect' singers, but never a version that begins? to measure up to the original. Your style & voice is for sitting back & being transported.

Know what you mean about the voice. My voice was always low and I'd get mistaken for being man over the phone. I 'compromised' but, now,? my voice is just low and it hurts my throat to try to raise it. It's true that artistry takes a long time & a lot of hard work until you find your own, distinctive voice (not meant as a pun).

Because I felt it too. I wrote this song in 1996 1½ years after this girl left? me for an aquaintance abroad. But not until 2010 did I suddenly feel the song like it was supposed to. This all has to do with my own development from something I was then, into what I'm now. I sang low E already back then but my natural speaking tone was raised as a compromise to make people understand me. But 5 years ago or so my voice changed into it's natural low but I can raise it at will.. compromising.

The translation won't change the original. But the english lyrics came naturally, I sang it to myself because all my audience in the? 90's were swedes. Actually this is my original plan. In 2005 I realized I want to re-record my old pop songs, but then creativity set in, and I've written ~80 more tunes since (discarded bunch of them but many good) In the 2000's I write most songs in english, english is now my first language. I chat a lot more with americans than swedes since 4 years.

Seriously, because I speak a few languages, I understand how (after using a none-native language during one's travels: especially considering that I now live in an English-speaking country) translations come naturally. Nevertheless, Chaan, it is the sound & sensation imparted by the language in which a song/prose/poetry that carry meaning beyond language. I truly think that, while you could record a translation, the original? should be the dominant version...

Seriously, the more I listen to this the more it sinks into my soul. I would like to read the translation, but I don't know whether a translation would do justice to the original Swedish. I? like the idea of having it translated into a variety of languages but let the 'audience' use their online translators to get a sense of it. Nothing can capture the subtly & nuances of a language. It just gets me in the original.

I can't promise you much about the english. You'll be able to understand the story though... It is lyric wise a simple pop song written by me 1996 after a lenghty trip to east? Asia. It was originally structured down in swedish on paper back in the day. I don't know when to - but I expect there to be commercial value to the english version if made in hi-fi with full instrumentation. I made the bassline in the 90's. A keeper.

Strange, isn't it? There are moments in life that make such an impression that 5 minutes ago is irrelevant. To be honest, much as I'd love to hear your English version, I 'feel' your sentiment so much that it almost doesn't matter! I'm listening to the track as I type and it 'feels' as potent as it did the first couple of times I listened to it. Music & tone is more powerful than language. Nonetheless, I'd love to hear your 'intuitive' translation. I know it'd be fabulous! Truly, I KNOW it...?

I'mma release an english version one day, I actually made it already back in '98 or something, so far back that I don't remember if I wrote down the lyrics or not,? but I remember when MAKING them, I just played the song as usual and sang it in english, I internalized english as my own language back in 1994 when out travelling, so I just knew the translation spontaneously.

Love you unplugged, Chaan! You'd be perfect in an old beatnik cafe (or a modern one!). Atmospheric and depressing. More Hell on Earth that Shangri-La... but I imagine this to be your intention. Not? knowing the lyrics, it's difficult to establish anything outside the dark atmosphere.
