The cameras actually caught good footage of all three of the Experience, I could watch Mitch firing up the skins for hours and never be bored. I drummed for a guitarist I nicknamed Semi Hendrix (he had Jimi down) and could always piss him off by saying The Mitch Mitchell Experience. Mitch was an ex-session guy like Jimmy Page who said, "Mitch never played that? way before Hendrix, or after." Bill Bruford: "No 60s drummer wanted to play in the New Jazz Quartet, they wanted to play with Jimi."

Lulu did not understand Hendrix. Jimi had a free form playing style. Lulu should have known that. To hell with what anyone wanted.....Jimi would do what he liked. If that means Lulu does not get to sing, if that means Jimi changes the score, then tough luck. That is how Jimi was. Lulu should have known better than to even attempt to? constrain Jimi in any way. That was her mistake, not Jimi's. By the way.....I was glued to the black and white set when this went on the air too!!

This is THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE, consisting of Jimi? Hendrix (lead guitar), Mitch Mitchell (drums), and Noel Redding (bass) and NOT Geddy Lee. This IS the best power trio that has ever been, period. Mitch Mitchell was called 'Jimi's man' for a reason, he was perfect for Jimi's playing style. With Cox and Miles the sound produced never matched The Experience. There was an attempt to re-form the line up, but differences between Jimi and Noel meant that it soon fell through. Noel forgave Jimi.

The real tragedy is Hendrix replaced Redding with Billy Cox, the worst bass player on the planet. At least he kept Mitch after briefly recording with Buddy Miles. One music critic wagged: "Switching from Mitch? Mitchell to Buddy Miles must be like trading in a sports car for a dump truck." I agree! Mitch to Hendrix was like Bonham to Page or Elvin to Coltrane.

Yes, hkyoutoob, that is Noel on bass (I actually met Redding once in a Dallas nightclub). He would not play with the Experience much longer after this, becoming estranged from Hendrix because he? wasn't on all of the recently-recorded ELECTRIC LADYLAND (among other drama). Jimi even let Noel put his song Little Miss Strange on LADYLAND to appease him. Redding was a fine bassist, even though he seems unsure of where to come in on some of his parts in this Lulu performance.

Story has it that 'Lulu' went absolutely nuts with Hendrix after this show. He'd apparently had the audacity to sway from the given script: e.g. going mental on 'Voodoo Chile' and binning off 'Hey? Joe' and doing the nod to Clapton and Cream. As a 13 year old at the time this the raw power of Hendrix and backing band completely blew my mind as did 'Lulu' out of the front of my trousers. I now live in a shop doorway in Athens with my laptop and dream of the IMF making electricity from aubergines.

Clapton was in shock! I think Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker were also in shock too. Hell, I was in shock, as were most of the audience. Nobody had heard anything like this before. Jack Bruce put it right..Jimi was like some form of force of nature. Clapton appeared to be putting on a brave face, and then went around back stage. Jimi? was not showing off. He was just doing his normal thing..but wow, what a performance!! If you do not perform on stage in the US people throw things at you!!

Lulu?? Lulu was so pi**ed off that she never invited The Experience onto the show again. Why? Normally, Lulu got up on stage and sang along with the tune that her invited artist guests were performing. Jimi had other ideas, and cut Hey Joe short to make tribute to Cream who had broken up that very day. That upset Lulu.

Cream? Cream sang? Sunshine of Your Love. Jimi has the guitar sing the words!! Nut loosens off.....ha, nothing for Jimi. The slow down....magnificent. Truly a trio worthy of being called musicians, unlike so many crap bands of today who appear to use instruments as fashion accessories. There is nothing like this today. I saw the first Hendrix appearance at the Cream university gig. I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E! From that point on, I was hooked.

Genius at work! Been there, seen that, on more than one occasion! I can confirm? that this IS the best power trio that has ever been. Live kick off song was usually Howlin Wolfs Killing Floor. Live? Awesome verging on incredible. Lasting impression? Touched by music in mind, spirit, and soul. I have seen nothing that even comes close to this trios performance in the last 40 odd years. They were simply amazing. RIP Jimi, Noel, and Mitch.

The point that Lennon was making is that Elvis made rock n roll big or put it more into the mainstream. He didn't invent it. Heck, there was even Little Richard and even Ray Charles before Elvis, but Presley was the 1st rock n roll superstar, and that's why he's? the King and not Hendrix. Elvis paved the way for many of the big acts that followed, including the Beatles.

there seems to be an undercurrent of "you must like hendrix otherwise you are a fool" type-comments. Similiar to me insisting that you get the same enjoyment out of say a Bach cantata as I might. i want to know what morons hit the dislike button. Neil is one of the best songwriters/musicians EVER. Its not like I got on this when he was part of the "in crowd", I'm 26 and seen him live multiple times. Neil is better live than Clapton, Santana, Dave Matthews.....just to name a few of the bigger draws i've seen. How dare you have an opinion. It is mandatory to? love Neil. He is a God among men.
