I might have been inside that Korean Airlines 747 plane at 0:38. This was back in 1996. Landings at Kai Tak ALWAYS make you feel like "You've Arrived" instead of landing? in the middle of nowhere. I didn't realize before then that? it was possible for the human anus to evolve and hang out like an elephant's trunk, then snap back into place. More than once. I had 10-12 landings at Kai Tak in corporate jets. Each approach and landing was unique with weather but perhaps the most memorable was in 1993 when a brand new 747 slid off the runway and was in the water facing back toward the airport. Everyone got out OK but the tail had to be blown off to allow the heavies to take off at max weights. It was quite a sight - I watched from a tour boat when the engineers "removed the obstruction". On approach you could see laundry drying on the apartment lines.?

we needed an airport with capacity to keep up with the growing economy both in hk and the pearl river delta. there was no space to extend kai tak (too close to living areas), so they had to build a brand new airport on the other side of the territory. the engineering? feat alone was incredible, but i think the most underrated accomplishment was moving EVERYTHING from kai tak to chek lap kok in just one night!
