Thanks for the reply Steve. Difficult to make a convincing case in limited space. Best to read Dawkins et al for the specifics. If you accept that DNA makes us what we? are and you accept that DNA mutates randomly all the time (this is the basis for genetic testing of crime scenes) then take two halves of a population and separate them. Their dna will continue to mutate randomly and different environmental conditions will select for divergent features eventually leaving 2 distinct species.
