I can't say I'm convinced about this whole ereader thing. I like to physically hold a real book in my hand. And I have whole sets of books, and I do NOT organize them alphabetically, I organize them chronologically, so the organization system would drive me? nuts. While I don't despise this new version as much as the old ones, they'll have to make them a lot more customizable (features, that is) before I would consider buying one.

Its nice you like your ipad. But you are not comparing apples to apples here. I don't want to read on a back lit screen all the time... Too much eye fatigue. The screen is not back lit, its eink. (which is not an apple advancement, so it has nothing to do with the rest of the 'herd'? following) I really enjoy reading my kobo, its small and fits in my purse and looks like reading a page out of a book.

This is why I just rent books or (when buying) scan the damn pages and send it back.? Or just go to a student who has a book so he/she can scan the pages. Another thing, don't buy the book days before cause you have to make sure you do need it or not...Mainly, I rent my books at a cheap price instead of buying them...I don't want to keep them.

I had a teacher who wrote a 15 page book(more like? an article) that wasn't relevant to the class but he made mandatory checks during attendance to see if we had it. He scammed the entire class into paying $70 for a binder and his article on printer paper. We sadly had to do it because he was the only one teaching this course. Him being golf buddies with the dean and admin board made him untouchable.

Did anyone find it ironic that the? guy complains of the expensive textbooks while you see that he has 3 long shelves filled with brand new shoes !?!? Books are filled with knowledge. With the internet, it is really great to have knowledge available almost for free (legally or not), but a sad consequence is that people value the knowledge they can get from books to less than the satisfaction of their own vanity through worthless fashion items.

That's the case with all programming classes, like the C++ language class that student was in, or actually any? computer related class actually. In part it seems to be because those books are practically out of date by the time the students get them. One class I had in 3D modeling gave us books(our school included that in the tuition fees) that were brand new, custom ordered, but were already out of date because of a few new updates were made to the computer program we were using.

Keep it in good condition, think about it, if for example after you finish your class and a lot of people sell their books there might be more books? then people for the next class, in this kind of situation (expecially for more specialised classes where selling to students outside your uni is not possible) doodling on the back cover can cost you $50

The problem is that its not like they just place the book on the shelf? and thats it, those bookshops face the risk that the book wont be used next year, then its a complete loss os $15, all you have to do is walk in and drop it off, maybe colelct a cheque a few days later at most. With amazon you have to go to a lot more trouble.

Anything that is over 5 years old, there is a VERY good chance you can find a pdf jpeg or some other type of file. That happen to me one time. Paid $100...never used the damn book. Sold it back and got $50. So I learned to go online and get the cheaper used book or rent in case I don't need it. Never NEVER buy your textbooks from the campus bookstore. Now there are some courses that require you to do so because it's the University version. Yet you'll be super lucky finding it online. I bought a? book that originally was $100, bought it online for $22.

I was so pissed last year. $160 meteorology book, used it, was in great condition yet..... went to sell it back to the bookstore and they said they weren't taking them back because they were using a new version the next year. Returned? a $150 math book..... got maybe $30 back. Definitely stopped using the bookstore after that.
