I completly agree. And Franco does that in some other pieces like e lucevan le stelle plenty others. I know Corelli's voice is suposed t o be the perfect one for this role, but don't know why I prefer the softer and silver tone of Pavarotti. Still, don't take away Corelli's talent.?

I've only been able to find one person who does this: Franco Corelli. The way he does it is the way Verdi intended. But Pavarotti doesn't do that in 2? versions I found on youtube. Pavarotti is an excellent singer. But, according to a book on Aida very few tenors can achieve this effect: fortissimo to pianissimo WITH morendo on the final Bb (the last high/loud note of this video). Hats off to Franco Corelli....wow.....I was speechless when I heard Corelli's version.

Many opera lovers feel that Caruso's ability to express emotions were unmatched and second to none Pav included. Caruso was the Father of all modern tenors; his memory deserves extreme respect and music lovers should show the greatest humilty in front of his unique genius. This was a grandly sung performance! I don't like the minimalist production design (although the costumes are terrific) but Freni and Domingo sing amazingly, flawlessly. They were a fine pair on stage and on recording (Freni recorded Aida with Carreras under Karajan). Despite the detractors/critics, she was a superb Aida with great style. This looks like it was a magical evening at the opera in Houston in? '87. Alas I never saw this. I was 7.

I wish they had released a filmed version of the original Aida production. Heather and? Adam are just perfect. If they made a movie, could they just make the roles "older"? I don't think so, in Francisco's voice you notice a great facilitie in higher notes, while in Pavarotti the higher notes are suffering strengh. The lower? notes of Francisco are more powerful, and that's very important. Musically, I prefer Francisco.

I guess u never heard Pav. live. He had a very small voice with limited dynamic range. Some say he? wore a body mike at the Met but I have no knowledge of that. Pav. really hurt his voice by taking on Radames, Otello(once), Chenier, Calaf & Canio. He does deserve credit for popularizing opera but? really he had a large PR machine behind him.

And also this man acts? more with the looks in his eyes than i see most people act with their entire bodies. He searches his soul for a meaning and conveys it with that glorious voice and his eyes. Again, better than a model looking singer with no voice. Oh wait that's right they want them for the hd broadcast nevermind. They don't hire singers for the house anymore only for the broadcast. Hence tiny voices that record well.
