I am a little hesitant about his proposal to constitutionally guarantee minimum levels of public safety funding. If a person were to fall down and split their head open (and didn't have any health insurance), all they would have to do is call an ambulance and they would be properly cared for (even illegal aliens receive care). My only problem with this video announcement is what happened in AC last week or last weekend. Gov. Christie mentioned nothing regarding increased police presence and crackdowns on crime. You? had two tourists stabbed to death outside of a casino with a cop across the street. Sure they caught the person that did the stabbing. However, that means very little to the two dead people on the street. Without getting the crime under control in AC it's still a long way down on my vacation spot list.

You were given a 5% bonus to offset the cost of the? 5% salary requirement. Because of how the percentages were applied it's a net loss of 0.25% annually. A quarter of 1%. But now state employees, like private sector employees, are actually paying into their retirement system. Those promises of contribution free retirement were made by politicians that wanted to get votes and didn't care for math or realistic assumptions.

The "public good" does not mean "state employees". The promises made to state employees? were not feasible. The government, federal or state, never handles money well Democrat or Republican. It was either get state employees to have skin in the game, i.e. contributing something above 0% of earned income to their retirement just like private sector employees, or face unfunded liabilities that would require a future governor to break promises.

I am sick of hearing these outreach messages from this Governor, who probably has a nice home and plenty of money and never has to worry like the rest of the State Employees. As a University Employee he and the legislator screwed us out of raises and this? so called bonus that is impossible for a university to meet. So it makes it look like the Universities fault rather than the reality that it was ridiculous guidelines set for them!

Without offering an opinion on the video's message, I think it's deeply ironic that there are state employees who cannot watch this video. Budget cuts have reduced the ability of Virginia agencies to pay for bandwidth costs and forced them to block certain websites, Youtube among them. I suspect that inability of the message to reach part of its intended audience alone will cause it to fall? on deaf ears once it does.

As a private citizen I want my government to manage the budget in a reasonable manner, but I am not supportive of decreasing money that was promised to state employees at their time of hire; lower salaries were agreed to by many people who were told to? expect a certain level of pension in their retirement. We now pay 5% of our salary to a retirement system that was scuttled by the Commonwealth. A bonus, if given, will not be in social security calculations when we retire.

This is all smoke and mirrors with only one goal for the governor in mind: auditioning for a spot on? the Republican ticket as a vice-presidential candidate. I'm tired of working multiple positions, 60-80 hours a week with not a dime of extra pay so he can become more rich and more famous.
