Robert Novak was at the opposite side of the political spectrum on most issues compared to my thinking, however like anybody, he shouldn't be pigeon-holed? as evidenced by his positions on the Middle East and 911. He was an independent thinker with a life beyond political issues as you illustrated. Several years ago, CNN aired a story about his life history and I found it very interesting (beyond his career). For the most part he was also a professional ("old school" and in a good way).

However, I too considered him a politically represhensible figure. His actions in publishing the identity of a federal intelligence officer - and working covertly with Bush administration officials to do so as part of a vendetta - was unconscionable, and tantamount to treason.
