Sorry , I didn't mean to sound rude, it's just that I get so wound up by the current crop of talent show wannabees being proclaimed as great singers. Very few of them can hold a note, hence the "scale hopping". Take my word for it, Twinkle had vocal talent and? maybe this wasn't the best recording.

I have all Lynn Ripley's recordings so I do know what I'm talking about! There is no need to be so rude. I stand by what I said even though I like? many of her recordings in particular 'Golden Lights'.

A nice performance, given the restrictions of a 3 peice band and a live studio recording. Have? a look at some of the X factor rubbish with big band backing and multi layered vocals and see what these youngsters could do with raw talent. No need to resort to screeching or running up and down the scales simply because they can't hold a note. Well done.

I think you're maybe confusing the ability to sing with the auto corrected crap on current "talent shows" . In fact the young lady has very good pitch without the help of technology. Todays multi tracked, echo enhanced, over produced "singers" would certainly struggle with two guitarists and a drummer as their backing sound. The performance needs to be taken in context, and to say "she couldn't sing for toffee" makes? me wonder if you have any musical knowledge at all.

She is a very underrated british girl singer and should rank? among peers like Sandie Shaw, Lulu and Cilla Black. She did many great songs and wrote many of them herself!

Some of you need to learn tonality. She has plenty tonality - a good singing voice. Her 45 of this I had - slower parts are not quite as fast as they are here and slower of the "slow lines" is about right for this song. She's a kid performing live and simply keeping up with the speed of the music - which should be slower? - it's not - as parts are a little fast. Her welsh english accent I like but may seem awkward - lending to those thinking she doesn't sing well. But her voice is very good.

As already mentioned this was 1965, no autotuners or vocal enhancers like people use today, her real name is Lynn Ripley, she is the aunt of actress Fay Ripley, she wrote the song herself when she was? a pupil at the Guildhall School of Music, it got to no 3 in the charts which makes her the UK youngest female hit singer/song writer at 16, she still makes a living writing music for films and TV jingles.

People who criticise this video? need to realise a few things about the way things were in the 60s. Firstly, this is a 16 year old kid performing in front of thousands of people probably with a pick-up band with little time for rehearsal, equipment that wasn't designed for such a cavernous venue and no click-tracks or foldback. Concerts in those days were all like that - pack in as many bands as you can, play for 20 minutes and get off to the next town 200 miles away.

What a fantastic video Singing live as well, nothing nowadays compares with this. Mind? you todays artistes cannot sing...let alone live !! She is so typical of the many 60s girl Singers, so natural, so pretty. Using make up in an enhancing way. The body language, facial expressions, clearly so enjoying what she is doing. Where is this ?looks a bit like one of the NME Poll Winners Concerts at Wembley, but the back of the stage doesnt look right for that venue can anyone help ?
